Ball Mate or any mate wont select surface of ball only middle

Hello All,

Im trying to create a simple ball mate.  The only problem I can't select the surface of the ball only the middle.  What can be cause this issue?  I have tried for the past hour but no dice.

Here is the image of the ball and the only two points it allows me to select.

You use the ball mate to rotate about the central point. 

If you don't have an exact half-circle for the socket you can place a mate connector specifically where you need it in the part studio.

The only problem is the frame (x,y,z coordinates) are pointing up.  I need to attached the other end to the face closes to the screen not the top of the ball.  Is there a way to rotate the frame?

Figured it out it you right click and edit the connector you can move and rotate it.
