sweeps! wtf!!!

i can't for the life of me make a sweep!!! everything i try just makes everything disappear. i have watched the video on it so many times and i still can't get it. i make everything look exactly like the video on the tutorial, but it doesn't work! either it gives me an error, "sweep" in red, or it makes everything disappear. i am trying to model a long cylinder, 3/8" round stock, have a straight edge for 8" inches and then sweep approximately 45 degrees and then continue straight for another 3" inches. then mirror it so there are two. i need to master this step because other things i want model will require similar sweeping!!! please help. i have already spent 4 hours tonight trying to get it.....thanks

shashank_aarya Member Posts: 265 ✭✭✭@barry_i_blevins For best results, you should always create the sketch for the circle of round stock on the plane which should be normal to the sweep curve. You can first create such plane by using "curve point" option. Please see the following animation for sweep.
