simulation of electric fields

Some associates of mine use comsol for simulating and calculating electric charge distribution between conductive volumes. Comsol is outside of my budget range. Is there any alternatives? Open source or free options preferred. Looking at the OnShape apps, I didn't see any in the simulation category that cover this use.
