Is there a way that you can show a spring being compressed in an assembly?

However, over the past summer I attempted to model a dynamic spring using complex mates in an assembly studio. The result is reasonably accurate, though I would not recommend trying is in a production environment.

Essentially, I created a quarter of a circle with the spring wire diameter. Then, through a series of cylindrical mates and gear relations, I connected many of the quarters to create the spring body. Finally, I used tangent mates and hidden guide bodies to constrain the spring to move only vertically. It was a great exercise to get more familiar with mates and relations, though I strongly recommend not using it in a large assembly or production environment.Tim Rice | User Experience | Support

Thanks. That looks just as I am trying too present it. Is there anyplace that describes the exercise to get to that point?
