How to consolidate several parts into one single part?

CristalejaCristaleja Member Posts: 9
This is the Raspberry Pi official Touchscreen I found in www.thingiverse.com, format STEP. I used it just for positioning and for designing the enclosures. As you can see on the image attached it has 40 parts and countless of surfaces.

Question:
Is there anyway to import these type of files and consolidate everything in one single part? NOTE: Using Boolean does not work, I get a Red warning.

Thanks for your ideas. (I tried attaching the STEP file but the site won't let me.) Here is the link:

The issue comes when inserting it as a derived part, it really clutters the file tree directory with 40 parts and hundreds of surfaces I would never use for anything.

At the moment there is no way to "knit" surfaces together, though there is an improvement request for such a feature. There is also no way to group parts together unless you are in an assembly tab. You could get around this by creating a separate part studio, ensuring all of the components are intersecting, and then use the boolean feature.

Working with surfaces is an area Onshape still needs to address.  I imported the step files from your link above and noticed the only surfaces are the SD card,  For a work-around, the SD card could be redrawn with Use/convert and extrusions.  Or if you do not need it, delete the surfaces...

Come on surface & mold tools!!
