So if i import a file how can i add it into an assembly with other parts that i created?

If the part/file translates you should be able to insert it into the assembly: https://cad.onshape.com/help/#insertpartorassembly.htm?Highlight=assembly insert
If the imported file does not translate there may be a broken surface in the model. You can file a feedback ticket and share the document with support to get some further help5
