I guess you've clicked on ”Open linked document”

That would have opened a "view only" instance.
Click on the link to the right of "Versions are view only" to get to the editable version of the document.

Are you on the free plan trying to work on a private document?

If so Onshape stabbed their free plan users in the back "changed their terms" to only allow public documents on the free plan.

Hi all, Did this thread go anywhere?
I'm an educator with a free subscription, I was using onshape with my secondary students this year until may, I now can't open my previous documents to edit, which I use to teach with???
I have only the 'View only' option, no links to the right, this is ridiculous!

@glen_woodhead You should definitely be able to edit any documents that your created. Is it possible that you are trying to open something that was shared with you by a student with view only permission?

You can filter to just the documents you created by selecting the "Created by me" filter on the left of the Documents page. If you still can't edit these documents please reach out to support. Click on the question mark icon at the top right of the screen when signed in and select "Report a bug."

@glen_woodhead - could it be that your account has expired? Free EDU accounts need to be renewed every year.

    Also, are you logged in?
if the file has link share permission you can still view it even if you aren't logged in.
