Why can't I copy and paste part of a sketch to a new surface parallel to the original?

I essentially of 2 parallel disks an inch apart from each other. I have a geometric pattern cut in to one of the disks and I'd like to mirror that pattern to the other disk so I can make the same holes using extrude. I'm unable to simply adjust the extrude depth so that I can cut through the bottom disk from the top.
