Surfacing questions

Hi

I have a nice loft surface feature, and I'm struggling to find the tools to merge/combine/intersect that surface, with other surfaces to create a closed surface shape. Then I want to create a solid from the closed surface.  Any tips on how to do these things? Do I need to use a different workflow than I would have in Creo?

Thank you
Anthony

All CAD packages have different feature sets and, therefore, a slightly different workflow. If you post a link to your document, it will make it easier for everyone to help you. Right now, I can't tell what you're trying to do other than it involves a lofted surface. Depending on the desired outcome, there are several ways to create a solid from the loft.

The simplest scenario is if your loft can be modified to be a solid feature. The rest of the surfaces can then be added to the solid.

Another option, is split. If the rest of your geometry can be created with solid features, then simply split your solid with the lofted surface and delete the unwanted solid body. Alternatively, you can use replace face.

If your whole body is going to be "schwoopy", then it's a bit more complicated. OS doesn't have a good way to turn a closed surface into a solid. You can use a combination of boolean operations and thickened surfaces to generate the end product, but it's messy.

I hope that helps, but like like I said, you'll get a lot more assistance if you supply a link to your model.

    Hi Mahir

Here's a link to the doc, it's the tab Trial 20.2....

Good tips, thanks for sharing. The Loft feature cannot be flipped from surface to solid without reselecting the profiles unfortunately. And I'm still working to get a good loft feature. I might try that if I cannot find a way to work with surfaces in OS. Thicken doesn't work for this type of surface, I don't want a hollow body, and the surface becomes very thin.

I reworked the Loft to make it a solid. It didn't take long to reselect the profiles.

    Hi Mahir
I'm curious to see! When I click on that link, it just opens onshape to my documents page, but when I open the doc it's still a surface. Can you resend the link?

Try the link again. I thought you had already copied the doc, so I deleted it. Just restored it.

Got it Mahir, thank you again! I've saved off a copy. I only get a chance to work on this occasionally. Cheers!
