Where is the Edit In Context menu item?

Hi,

I'm a pretty new to OnShape. I have imported two objects from STEP files (a printed circuit assembly (PCA) and a plastic enclosure). I have managed to mate the two together OK. I now want to modify the enclosure to include cut-outs for bits sticking out of the PCA. I am trying to use the "Edit in context" feature to do this. However, when I right-click on selected parts of the enclosure, the context menu does not include the "Edit in context" item. Is there some restriction on when this in-context editing can be done, or am I missing something else?

Thanks for the help.

Peter

You have to do it from the assembly. Right-click the part in the assembly and select edit in context.

    Hi Neil,

Thanks for the response. I am in the assembly (sorry, I did not specifically say that in my post). I have inserted the PCA and the enclosure into a new assembly tab and have mated them together. But, as I say, if I select a part and right click it, I do not see the Edit In Context item in the menu. I see other options that look like similar to those that appear in the menu in the tutorial, but not this specific command. In the menu in the tutorial, where the options "Edit In Context" and "Switch to Frame" appear, my menu has "Open Linked Document" (which I do not see in the Tutorial's menu).

    Hi @peter_berry ,

As of right now, In-Context only works for Parts that are in the same document as the assembly.
@lougallo pointed out when I was stuck in this situation that you can use ICE and then the transform (copy in place) to modify parts from outside the current document.  OK were modifying a copy not the linked doc but can be really useful none the less.

    Cheers, Owen S.
