how to draw grooves and ridges

I have a cilindrical shape, in wich I want to draw a groove going all the way around. It is meant to fit an o-ring to make the cilinder seal inside a tube. I'm sure the solution is quite simple but I just can't figure it out. Any help? Added a picture link to clarify. https://imgur.com/rqARqvI

You should be able to do this in 2 steps. First, you will sketch the profile that you have (this will include the cylinder profile and groove) and second, you can use the revolve feature to actually generate the part desired. https://cad.onshape.com/help/index.htm#revolve.htm?Highlight=revolve

If I already had the cylinder I'd put a plane through it where I wanted the o-ring and then create a sketch and use the 'intersection' tool to create a path.  I'd then create another sketch at 90 degrees to create the profile and then revolve and remove it.

Daniel, 

There are many ways to do this but if you're using a cylinder as your solid, as opposed to doing a revolve with the groove in the sketch, you can just do a simple revolve remove.

Or model the o-ring as a new part then do a boolean remove of the o-ring from the cylinder with the "keep tools" option selected...
