Hole Standards, options and their meaning?

MetroMetro Member Posts: 17 ✭✭

Hi there.

I'm wondering where a nubie can learn about the some of the options in the hole feature actually mean?

for example: What does % of diametric engagement mean? What is pitch?

I want to have some tapped holes in my project that accommodate M2 grub screws and and M6 bolt.

This is my first project and I'm hoping that it can be 3d printed or machined.

Thanks for any advise.

Hi, have a google for the ZEUS handbook, it'll tell you more than you ever wished to know on the subject.

Pitch = How tight the turn of the threads are

Diametric engagement = How big the pilot hole is for the internal thread, which impacts on how much the threads overlap.

Or pick up any copy of Machinery's Handbook from 1920 to today.  It has probably dozens of pages on holes types and threads.
