Spline Offset, (Shows preview then fails)

When offsetting a spline inward, the offset fails. This happens all the time while I'm in a sketch.
It would be nice if the offset sketch command worked better with splines. Please consider making the offset feature calculate more like the thicken command.
Spline Arch Model
The preview shows the correct offset, but when you hit enter, the offset fails.
I obtained the part I was trying to make by extruding the spline as a surface then thickening the surface inward 4.5 inches.
