Split surface into separate surfaces

Hi,
I've tried to split a sphere surface (hollow, not a solid part) into 2 domes. The split is successful with the split line showing, but the surface is still taken as just a single surface.
This is in contrast with splitting a sphere part (solid). After the split, the original part is separated into 2 parts.
I've done both splits in the document below. The Blue ball is the surface and the Grey ball is the part:

Why is it not possible to split the sphere surface?

michał_1! Yes, if I choose to split part instead I'm able to split my surface now.
Just that with split face, I could split the sphere with just 1 diameter line as entity, so it was more convenient than having to define a plane for the split entity. However, that was only able to split the face and not the surface, so can't use that for my case.
