Mate issue with .IGES import

derek_boasederek_boase Member Posts: 3
I imported an IGES file into and none of the mates were imported with it. I searched in the insert area but wasn't able to see anything useful. Any suggestions?

When you import CAD data into Onshape, no matter the format it will be treated and handled the same. Since we are a different CAD system from where ever the data is coming from, the features are handled differently and so are the mates. Imported geometry will be simplified and we have a suite of direct editing features to make modifications to it.

On the mating side we have a very different approach to mates compared to other CAD systems so even if the mates were imported they wouldn't be very useful. @derek_boase take a look at how we handle mates and see how we help reduce the number needed by about a ratio of 3 to 1.

If you need help mating your import together feel free to share a link to a public document here in the forum so we can take a look and help out.
