Exporting units?!

Tru7hTru7h Member Posts: 18 ✭✭
Hi Onshape Community,

I'm having an issue with OnShape. I'll export a Part Studio and it will change the units, and therefore the size of the part on me. For just one instance, I'm working with a fairly simple part that's essentially a 3" diameter disc (linked below). When I export (I'm using .stl and .step) it comes out as a 3mm diameter part! That's how the file is read by Meshmixer, Shapeways.com, thingverse, and several other systems. It's not me, and I'm not crazy, but I might be getting there! Please help!

Try exporting it with units set to mm

Yes, I've done that. Sorry I forgot to include mention of trying that approach.

Does changing the workspace units to mm fix it?

STL files do not actually export what the units are for the part. It only says that the part is 3 "somethings" in diameter.

So if you export the piece as a 3in. diameter part, but the other software is set to mm, then it will come in as a 3mm diameter part. You have to make sure that the import/export units settings are the same for both software.
