How to make a "Sharp Edge" or extrude to a Spline

ma_glasma_glas Member Posts: 5
Hello OnShape-Community,
the problem is a little bit difficult for me to explain so I added a picture. Basically I want the Extruded shape to extrude like a Triangle (to a single spline). I tried the Chamfer, but this messes up the Spline´s I used. Also the lenght/shape of the triangle changes on the way, so Chamfer wouldnt be correct to use, since I can only add a beginning end end distance.

    Hi, if I get it right, you could use the "move face" feature and rotate the face around the edge. You could also create a sketch like in your picture and extrude it. It would be helpful to share your document.

    You can also use the Loft feature to loft the face to a sketched line.

    @rafael_telgmann thanks for the answer. I got it somewhat working with a little problem:
    1. Use the extrude feature to give the spline at the front a little bit of thickness (like 0.01mm) to create a surface
    2. Select the now created surface and the surface behind it and use the Loft Button and it creates something that looks like a triangle.

    Only problem this caused: one side is a bit messed up and not connecting with the other one. Here a Picture:

    I guess that is an engine bug. Since when extruding an spline, the "round" spline gets reduced to something more edgy, less high polygon. I guess to increase performance. This doesnt seem to be done the same way for both sides by the engine, causing it to be unaligned.

    In the loft tutorial it points out that the engine will not necessarily make the same inferences about the control points of the loft as you might expect. So if you need the loft to loft to specific vertexes, you need to specify them on the loft profiles.

    Hi, I think your approach is not the best you could do, but it is hard to help without a shared document.
    I would suggest that the clunky edge is just a "zoom" issue. Have you tried viewing in high quality?

    @radael_telgmann
    View in high quality seems to have fixed the issue. Thank you!

    The chunky edges is the result of the coarse tessellation Onshape uses by default to improve display speed & performance. You can always improve the Quality of the display by selecting View in High Quality as @rafael_telgmann suggested (or use the keyboard shortcut Shift+R).
