How to make this hole through this important object

I am trying to make 6 circular holes in the side of the box but when trying to use Extrude on this area of the box (the middle section), the remove option is gone and the face of the box can't be changed, is there a way to fix this or a solution. I have provided screenshots to this issue and would appreciate any assistance.

Do you see how you have Surface selected at the top of the Extrude dialog? Change that to Solid and then you will see remove.
when doing this, you still get a error. is there another issue?
Select the box for your Merge scope.
I have tried that yes, if you are able to does the link I provided work as I'm not sure if there is something wrong with this object.
You also need to make the hole deep enough.
Thank you, I found my issue. you were right I was not correctly merging with the box. I think I was trying to merge with a face not the object.
