edit appearance wonn't change part color

Part has been assigned transparent gray, stays black.

    For the back part, it has Face Appearances assigned (auto assigned during the import) that are overriding the Part Appearance. Navigate to those Face Appearances in the Appearance Panel and choose to "Disable Imported Appearances". Alternatively, you can edit the Import feature and uncheck that box option.

    Thanks! never used that panel. some of the students are very insistent that onshape uses the colors from their Inventor models

    For their sake, note that disabling the imported appearances only removes the "Face Appearance" and the underlying part appearances should still match the original file! Glad I could help

    When they exported step files, random colors would be assigned, so now they're doing parasolid, and it's working better. The imported appearances box was not checked when I looked at that document.
