Issue with Loft

dany_kudany_ku Member Posts: 8

Im trying to create curvy solid body based on net of sketches. I have 3 sketch as profiles and 8 sketches as guides. This 8 sketches build based on those 3 sketch profiles, so all points are connected 100%

When I'm connecting all together I'm getting this error:

I want to highlight: All points connected and rechecked many times, ALL profiles and guides in proper order and rechecked many times

And this is how it looks on model:

It looks like my guide not connected to profile. And if I start removing this guide with red dot, this dot jumps to another guide:

BUT!! As a proof that guides are connected If instead of all 8 guides at the same time I will be using only 2, all of them are working :

So, can some one help me and guide what is wrong??? I dont believe that Onshape limited to 2 guides, as on same file I have another part of model that done with 8 guides…

I have PLAN B to solve this issue as creating 2 separate Lofts. Loft 1 with profiles 1 and 2, Loft 2 with profiles 2 and 3. I think it will work, but there must be better solution in case I have 10 profiles…

That's a lotta guides!! 1st question would be. do you really need that much control on the surface? I would strongly suggest reversing your approach and make your guides your profiles and your profiles your guides. In either case…post your document link so that others and myself can take a look to see where the issue is.

what are the "13 selections" inside each profile? Individual sketch faces? I'd expect to see just 1 for a shape like this. Have you tried a Surface loft instead? I think trying to pick the faces like that is complicating things for you.

Yeah, it is one sketch and I can make it simpler by changing horizontal lines in to construction line. I don't think that's the issue but let me try to fix it

Regarding guides - yes I need them. With just 2-3 guides it is way fare from shape that I'm looking for. As well on the forum I've seen a user where he tried add.. like 50 guides and his issue was solved. So number of guides is not a problem. As well, I highlight again, another Loft body created perfectly with 8 guides. Difference just that it is 2 or 3 profiles

Yeah, it was just normal lines in one sketch instead of constructed. Changed it so now profile is one selection, but still same

Glad you got it figured out. your link works but the document is set to view only. so should you need help in the future you will have to set it so other can make a copy to inspect and provide feedback. I wasn't implying it couldn't be done the way you were doing but figured the surface quality might be improved doing it the other way. not sure didn't try it. Anyway. glad you got. it.
