Create new part from sheet metal model that has internal extrusion

ross_widgerross_widger Member Posts: 5

Hi I'm new to Onscape and designing a 5 sided folded metal box with 2 sides to contain an attached welded internal cut out. I've created the box with with 'extrude' and the cut out internally with extrude and created a correct sheet metal table. I can't find a way to create the internal extrusion as a new part so i can create a sheet metal table with folds. The cut out edges two adjacent sides of the box.

Can you make your file public and share it?
Perhaps you could make a non-sheet metal extrusion part (perhaps from the same sketch as the cut out?)
and then use 'sheet metal model' to make a new part (set to convert)

checkout two approaches in V1 and V2 of this document:

    you were already sooo close.

notice in the sheet metal model 'convert' tab, it allows 'faces to exclude'.
you had selected the faces that you wanted to use there.

the inverse of that is basically the 'thicken' tab where the faces you select are to be 'included'.

    that's in V1.

in V2 I demonstrated the approach with convert with a non-sheet metal extrusion part like i described before.

But V1 is a better way to go forward…
