Help to create angled rim around entire shape

Petr_SimunekPetr_Simunek Member Posts: 4

Hi guys,

I have this (in black) and need to model the one in red. I will need to add some fillets in the corners, bt assumne I can do that later.
Can you point me in to right direction, video or something ?

thx

    is it precisely square?

In that case it's best to only model 1/8th of the part. if you did model the whole, you could take a pizza slice out. (extrude intersect) 1/8th of the part.
Add the triangular rim, extrude it. preferrably before the shell feature that you may have used. else hollow it out manually with another extrude

then mirror and circular pattern to make it complete again…

Yes, Jelte is right: In Onshape, as opposed to direct modeling systems, one of the magic things is we can go back in time and change the beginnings of our model, so we don't need to model on top of what we already have.

I usually use mirror extensively, however for a simple shape like this, a sweep on a square profile is a simpler way to get to the same result:

This is how I would do it, using my Polypipe FS

    .

The real question here, is why it's taking all our PRO users more than 3 features to do this 😉
