how to modify an existing design

Member Posts: 1 PRO

when I modify an existing design, must I:

  1. Change actions in the order, that they were created; e.g. sketch 1, extrude 1, sketch 2, extrude 2, chafer 1?

2.. Or must I do it in the reverse order?

3. Or can I modify actions in any order?

4. Eventually can I start a new sequence: sketch X, extrude X, sketch X+1, etc

I am not sure, which method I used, but anyway I ended up with a lot of error messages of the type: "missing part did not regenerate". As result to this, I created a new design from bottom,

the order that you see them in is the order they get created. the name of them means nothing for how to edit and what order to edit them.

Any order is possible. But usually start with the feature in the tree that first created what you are changing. Depending on how big the change, and how robust the modeling was, will determine how many things fail.

What I like to do is open a second browser window and navigate it to a version immediately before the change. Put that window side by side on my screen with the main window.

Then roll back both windows to the same place. Make the change, and advance both windows one feature at a time. When the feature fails in the main window, you can see what it was supposed to look like in the second window and fix. Etc.
