Help with converting to sheet metal

afalzate13afalzate13 Member Posts: 33 PRO

I designed this already as a sheet metal part and usually I can use the "sheet metal model" feature to flatten it out. I know usually you're supposed to start out with a prism-like shape and convert to a sheet metal model, but usually I can just select enough faces to ignore, and I can get to the final result as a flat Sheet model. I'm stuck on trying to convert this model to a flat sheet model using this feature and could use some help.

Hard to be sure since you shared the part just as a link so we can't make a copy to try it but I think you might be getting an interference here (i.e. try excluding that return flange and see if it works…):

Also, in a case like this, it would make sense to start with the overall "shape" and add overlapping flanges and details after creating the sheet metal model precisely so that you can catch issues like this as you go…

I agree it's better to work as a sheet metal model where you can. I don't think this is your only issue, but I found a small unintentional face, and I wonder if there are other small errors causing issues.
