How do I simplify this imported DXF file?

jake_nijmehjake_nijmeh Member Posts: 4

Hello this is my first time importing a dxf and I am very new to onshape (been using Tinkercad) but I think its complexity is causing my laptop to constantly freeze anytime I do anything. I am using a fairly strong laptop and the shape is simple but when zooming into the shape it has a so many points that are unnecessary as they are all along a basically straight line. I tried selecting the individual points and clicking delete but it didn't do anything. is there an easy way to combine the segments and simplify the shape? Finish the sketch. Create a new sketch with same workplane. Draw lines and arcs as needed over top. Finish the sketch. Delete/suppress original sketch. Tweak, dimension, contrrain new sketch as needed.

As MD says plus sequencing to eliminate repeat features carrying forward details of the same sketch. Save the transform copy for last if it is needed. Typically duplicate parts work better in assembly.

Hey guys thank you for your suggestions! I am going to pause this one for now as I can't do anything on it without my laptop freezing and my laptop is decent too (RTX 2060, 16GB RAM). I may attempt it again when I get better with onshape and can figure a way around it being so slow

It doesn't look very complicated.. Just sketch it from scratch?

I gotta say that's its the most insane thing I've seen for excessive points on an import. LOL. Then I saw that you had an STL file imported of the same thing and it made more sense of where it might of been coming from.
