Using may data entry points with different configurations

Marco_TonMarco_Ton Member Posts: 4

I have an extrude remove which is defined by 60 points with a spline with a constant horizontal distance and the vertical distance is variable.

I have over 50 configurations of this part. The values are delivered by an external script (python) in an excel table. I am looking to a efficient way to put this data in where I have still a good overview.

I did try via configuration panel but it seems the order of the columns is not the order of clicking, you can't move them, you cant rename them so it has not really good overview. I did try the configuration panel in combination with input but also with variable input.

I am wondering what the best way forward is. Can also make different part studio each "configuration" with their own variable table. What do you thinK?

Use variables instead of dimensions in your sketch and configure the variable values in the table. This will show the name of the variable as a column in the config table, and you can control the order by ordering the variable features in the tree, so that should be easier…

Since you're already using python, and want to control that many things, I wonder if a one-off custom feature would be a better way to both process the points, create configurable inputs, and create the final curve you're using. Could the python be re-done with Featurescript entirely? If not, you could at least make a custom feature that takes a csv input and creates all of the output. If you can share more about the end goal of the design, and the logic behind your python I could give a better answer.

Thanks both. I made the suggestions of Eric happen on the moment. I did overlook that the part variable becomes a "feature" in the feature tree (so configurable via the configurations) where the variables of the variable studio don't appear (so not configurable via the configuration panel)

@EvanReese I come back on your question if I have some more time. I was already looking for long term solution to script directly but for now step to far since I am not the developer of the python script. But might be the case you can help me a step forward there.
