Holes and Constraints

Hello,
I attempted to use the Circular Pattern tool to make my four holes in place of where had used the Center Point Circle tool and now I'm told my plane is undefined even though I can't find any blue markings. Is there a way I can extrude each circles face hole on both a positive and negative z axis (all the way through) in addition to avoiding the constraint issue?

Use an alternate plane to start holes.
