Problem importing dxf file

pablo_costa340pablo_costa340 Member Posts: 6

Hi, I'm trying to import a cadmapper-generated file (.dxf) to manipulate, but I'm getting a lot of errors during the import process. I've tried several formats, but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this?

"

The DXF/DWG imported with the following error:

- Could not import unrecognized entity."

It's because your DXF looks like this…. WAY too many lines for Onshape to handle in a sketch feature

Looks like it does bring it into a sketch. The errors your seeing are Onshape leaving out "mesh" entitities. So like the grid and the lot topo triangles are mesh and are not imported.

Curious what are you trying to do with such a file in onshape?

First, thank you very much for paying attention to my problem.

Regarding the goal, I want to create a 3D model of the location for printing, something like what is done here in this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qirr7ZNCBHC. So it is important to import with all the details. I'm wondering if it's not incompatibility with any kind of entity or something.

I see it now. the DXF is in 3D. unusual for DXF so I wasn't expecting that. I believe onshape DXF import is limited to 2D. not sure. But the whole thing would need converted to a format that imports as 3d to onshape like STEP, STL, IGES, etc,. Can you export it to any other formats?

Yeah. The file can be exported to AutoCAD DXF, Rhino 5 3DM, SketchUp 2015+ SKP, Archicad DXF, Illustrator SVG and SketchUp 8 to 2014 SKP.

You could try Rhino since Onshape will export to rhino.

    Importing .3dm works great:

It would be interesting to see if it works with something more complex.

Wow! The Rhino export (3DM) worked perfectly! I am immensely grateful for your help!
