Regarding storage capacity, user limits, and PLM integration

Would it be possible for you to answer the following questions?

1. Unlimited Storage and User Access in Onshape Packages
It is stated that all Onshape packages offer unlimited storage and allow unlimited user invitations for collaboration. Is this truly the case? What kind of technical infrastructure enables this scalability?

For example, large enterprises may have tens of thousands of users and need to manage extremely large volumes of modeling data. If Onshape can truly support unlimited users and data storage, it would be a significant advantage—but it also raises questions about how this is technically feasible. I would appreciate any clarification to help explain this to our internal teams and customers.

2. Integration Between Onshape and Windchill
Is API the required method for integrating Onshape with Windchill? Since the free version of Onshape provides API access, does that mean integration with Windchill is technically possible even with the free version?

Additionally, when integrating Onshape with Windchill, is customization on the Windchill side necessary to properly receive and process data such as BOM structures or release status?

    1. Storage is cheap these days. Onshape's cloud storage and compute is all based on AWS. You'll find that documents that haven't been touched in a while will take longer to load. Documents that were last touched by someone on your team halfway around the world may also take longer to load. I don't know the details, but I can infer that there are different levels of storage at the various Onshape AWS sites, and that when something has been active on a different server, it may take a moment to sync the changes around the world. Having managed Solidworks PDM Pro between the US and China (and trying to keep the syncing working smoothly), and spent a lot of time with my then CIO on server costs etc, I really don't want to waste my life on those details ever again.
    2. The free version of Onshape is for non-commercial work only. I doubt anyone is paying for windchill for their hobbies. I have no clue about Onshape/Windchill integrations. Arena (also owned by PTC) has a first party integration which is supposed to work well.

    1. Storage is probably unlimited until people find a way to abuse the system.
But like Simon said, storage is much cheaper than compute. Bandwidth limits probably keep file storage size in check, and the API terms of use include a clause for "acceptable use".

      2. Yes you need to use the API for any integration that is not first party (such as Arena). But on a free account you might hit API limits pretty quickly (https://onshape-public.github.io/docs/auth/limits/).
Windchill shouldn't need customization, most CAD-PLM integrations work with the provided APIs assuming a fairly standard workflow.
