Niceeee! You gonna take home the gold this battle? @bryan_lagrange

Looks like a new page got started, here are the rules for anyone who is interested. Deadline is a few days away Nov 1st. Must be submitted before then.

    Render Battle #7 - Jack-O-Lantern!

It's time to wrap up 2025 with the 7th Onshape unofficial render battle!
All forum users are welcome to participate and or judge the renders. (The Onshape team included.❤️)
Thanks @bryan_lagrange for prompting this battle.

    .

    Carving Contest?

Let's see what you can do with this blank pumpkin!
The final entry will be the render of your carved pumpkin.

    📸Any Rendering Platform? (Open Division)

That's right, this battle is now open to any render platform.
No longer just render studio. Let's see what you can do!

    Rules:

    1. Render must fall into the specified topic.
    2. You must use the provided pre-modeled studio.
    3. Whoever creates the most legit jack-o-lantern render (📸image or 🎥video 😎) using this → Pumpkin will win the battle! The winner will also be added to the Render Battle "Hall of Fame" list for all future battles.
    4. Have fun!

    Voting:

    • Render submission date November 1st 2025.
    • All entries must be submitted here before the submission date.
    • Anyone can vote!
      • Voters account must be created before the date of this post to deter self or friend voting.
      • Votes must be from relatively active forum members, not newly created accounts.
    • Voting will last for 1 week after the submission date.
    • The render with the most votes wins. (Tie breakers will be determined by likes.)

This is my entry. Less on the realistic side more on the fantasy. My take on a Jack in the box Jack O Lantern style. Look forward to seeing all the entries!

Rendering still in progress on my end. Coming down to the wire. Might literally. If I run out of time I might cheat a little with the stem because of how little symmetry there is with that geometry. Hope not to though.

I'll just say @Derek_Van_Allen_BD must of been an overachiever in school. Reminds me of my son who hates not getting 100% on all his grades.

@MDesign you'd be shocked with how many C averages I clocked back in the day. But that was because everything was a 0 or 100 so you're 70% correct. For the sake of @MichaelPascoe's drama I'll withhold the progress photos from this thread until I've got the final ready.

Ty much! This was a fun one to work on.
Looking forward to seeing @Derek_Van_Allen_BD's mysterious renders.

Hopefully we get a few more entries before the day is done. It's always more fun the more entries there are.

No I'm good, I'm just working away at it. I promise I'll slide it in before midnight lol. You got some really tricky spline geometry in here so it's taking awhile to make sure everything is lined up right

(Using the latest IRL rendering platform! Incredibly photorealistic — though the “render set up time” was probably measured in days!)
While this entry isn’t a digital render, it’s such an outstanding piece of carving art that it absolutely deserves recognition in the Hall of Fame if voted in. For contest purposes, if this one is voted in, we will also move to the next highest-voted entry that qualifies as an actual render.

(Not for submission, just thought I'd finally use a custom feature I wrote forever ago: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/7bdf2e2fb676e05d16000327/w/f487e85bf27aeaa96e53b1a9/e/0d8e3011b5d6dc3afd31a66f)

Edit: lol, someone doesn't like cheese.

In my defense, it was never specified that we had to stay in a purely digital rendering pipeline. Just that we had to use the supplied part studio and produce the most legit image. Now some people might call my submission a violation of the spirit of the rules if only technically abiding by the letter of them, and I would also call it that because that's what I was going for. That kind of thing is my jam.

Nice submissions! My vote's gotta go to Derek's "rendering" (#6) and if I need to choose a digital rendering then Michael's (#5) is the one for me.

Derek, it looks like you ended up forcing a cursed sheet metal model to produce, which helped make it manufacturable, but didn't make the patterns, then you offset surfaces and used the Flatten Surface tool to make patterns? Really cool stuff.

Michael, can't wait to hear more about your app. Lookin' great.
