As a teacher - How does this work?

joseph_antonejoseph_antone Member Posts: 2

I've been struggling using this in my classroom as the interface is not entirely intuitive. I've managed to find some documents and assign them as copied documents, but I'm stuggling with courses. For example, I'd like my students to go through the:

Introduction to Sketching - (link) But there is no document. I don't see a means of putting a link as an assignment, nor do I see the ability to assign the course. I did manage to find something similar with a document, but I'm running into other courses I'd like to assign, but run into the same problem (i.e. Introduction to Part Studios (link))

How are other teachers here managing the content. Are you ignoring the OnShape system entirely?

Thank you.

I first used this when I learned Onshape. It's got a pretty good set of tutorials that can be followed along without needing to watch videos. I didn't use any of the extra supplementary teaching materials, but they've made quite a few things like slide decks and handouts.

Hi Joseph. I'm glad you are using Onshape with your students. I think you will find that Onshape is the best CAD platform out there! If you would like your students to go through the self-paced courses in the Learning Center, one option is to just have them send you their completion certificates once they complete the course.

If you are using Classes & Assignments, I think creating assignments for the course exercises is a great way to monitor student progress. For example, in Introduction to Sketching, once students go through the videos in the first three sections, they are asked to complete an excercise called "Exercise: Basic Sketching." You could create an assignment called "Introduction to Sketching Exercise: Basic Sketching" and use submission option 1, "students begin with a new document." They could complete the sketching exercise in that document and hit submit. You'd have a record of every student's progress.

Also, tons of teachers are attaching the Intro to CAD documents to assignments. Check out this video for more.
