pcb studio mates breaking after syncing to onshape

Hi,
I am exploring some workflows with the PCB studio and collaborating with our electrical engineering team (they work in Altium).
Current workflow:
1. Pull board cad from cloud service
2. Ensure all components are there and have correct CAD
3. Sync to Onshape (update existing assembly)
This works fine and as intended, however when I go to pull a new updated version of the board and sync to onshape again all of my mates break. My assumption at what is happening here is that the PCB studio, when updating the assembly, is just completely redoing the assembly (deleting everything and reinputting everything.)
I have found a workaround for mates to actual components that are mounted to the board, I just apply a mate connector to the component in its individual document and reference that newer version. However, for when I want to have a mate connector to the board itself I lose these mate connectors and mates every time.
This is currently making it a little tough to work with PCB studio, is there anything I can do?

That happens to me, too. I guess the reason it's never bothered me is because I always just fix the board and then group everything.
