API Limits

We have just had an email telling us we have exceeded our limit of API requests, and we need to buy more. When looking at the limits, it is a mere 20000 per year per company! We have 5 users, so that is 4000 per user. We have multiple programs for exporting, renaming documents and parts, downloading, etc, for our workflows. This creates multiple requests for every drawing, so we will run out in about 2 weeks.

This limit looks to have been put in place about 3 days ago!

We are in the same boat. at first they tell you they will start counting from january but they realised people will push a huge amount of api call to make sure they will have enough in 2026, so without telling they started counting from november. The way this was communicated and handled and push true is very depressing and changed my view on what this beautiful tool once was.

Just an FYI for anyone reading this - the API limits have changed slightly since May2025.
You can look at the most up to date info in the documentation:
    https://onshape-public.github.io/docs/auth/limits/

You can also see your current usage ( and start date) under company settings > Developer

A per year quota is shocking to me. A 10000 call limit per user per company is more shocking to me.

edit: possibly the current state of affairs with release management crashing out and assemblies failing to load boms all over the place has got me feeling a bit sour. Its tiring to have new features constantly breaking old reliable ones.

My apologies for the delay. I'm not sure how I missed the original post. Either way, thanks for bringing this feedback to our attention. We know how critical API access can be to workflows, and we want to address your concerns directly.

Please note that any calls you have made to date are not currently being counted. We did add a way for you to view your consumption in the product. That was released on November 21. So, the calls you've made since then are showing up in that record. However, we have not started to enforce limits yet. When we do, we are going to reset everyone's consumption to zero. You will then be able to make calls against your annual allotment until your renewal date (or annual anniversary date if your contract includes multiple years).

We also offer API add-on packages if your usage consistently exceeds the limit. We’re happy to share pricing details and help evaluate whether that's the right option for your team.

Please let us know how we can help.
