Hide part in an active feature.

robert_stilesrobert_stiles Member Posts: 155 PRO

Out side of a feature, I can right click a part, and hide it.

But

When I run a feature, say extrude, or move face, the ability to hide a single part, the hide part option from the right click context menu has gone? Hide all other parts is there, but not hide part? (point A)

Why is this?

And, also, Isolate part… its great, but, when I'm inside an active feature, and I isolate a part, any other part the active feature is interacting with, is also in the isolation view, even if I come out, and go back in?

Here is my use case. Imagine 2 parts, lets say timber, touching with a simple 45 mitre joint. Lets say I want to add 0.5mm or so to each mitre face, using move face, because its better to sand them back, and have a tight mitre, than a baggy mitre.

I activate move face, but I can't select the mitre face, because the other part is touching it. So I use isolate. Select the face, then un-isolate, try to isolate the other part, and the first part remains in the isolation selection. Annoying. I try to hide the part, but, note point A above, I can't. So I have to out the active feature, hide aforementioned part, go back in to feature, and then selected the face I need. Its a bit tedious.

I know you are going to say, hover over the part, press Y… sometimes this works, but I swear its not every time.

Am I missing something here?

I would love to have more flexibility to use hide or isolate whenever, but in the mean time, I would try at least temporarily working in translucent shade mode, and using the select other (~ tilde key, or whatever is above your Tab key) to cycle until you get the right thing.

    ah, that's really interesting. Thankyou

I used to use select other a lot, but then I moved from Chrome to Firefox because I read deep in a techy discussion (on here, somewhere?) that firefox has a much larger display cache memory? However, the short cut key combo I was using before on firefox activated some firefoxy debug mode, so it dropped out my common usage quickly. And what's most alarming is that I can't for the life of me remember what I was pressing before ? (and I was using it every day!), but it certainly was not the `tilde key above the Tab key. I least… I don't think it was.

But it works now, so that's a great tip. Thanks

What? Why is my reply displaying like that?

This is what happens when you play with hot keys.
