Migrating parts revisions question

gary_lepleygary_lepley Member Posts: 2

I've just started using Onshape after years of Solidworks and Fusion. I'm attempting to build up my parts library. The issue I'm having is this:

I model a part (call it part 100) with a current Revision (B). I change the property (Revision) of the part to B.

I create a drawing of the part.

The correct revision shows in the title block.

When I add the revision block it shows Rev A.

I release the drawing and part changing Rev to B.

Drawing title block shows no revision (along with the properties of the part).

The revision block show Rev B but also adds C*.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious but can't seem to get anywhere with this. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you

A "release" in Onshape is a bit different: it's a snapshot in time but it doesn't "lock" the workspace.

So after you do a release, you have to look at the actual released version (triangle in the version history graph), as that's the only place that revision exists.

If you are in the "workspace", you are looking at the "live" version which is newer than the release. The editable part of the rev block is for the "next" revision (the * indicates that it doesn't exist yet).

You also don't need to set the revision property manually in the drawing or parts as the release process will (over-)write that in.
