Assembly Mirrored Parts - Consolidate Quantities in BOM?

I've been using the assembly mirror feature to mirror parts on a workbench I'm designing and it's an awesome feature to easily position the mirrored part. When I generate the BOM for the assembly the mirrored parts aren't consolidated in the quantities of its 'parent' mirror - i.e. there are 2 rows in BOM for the same parts - the mirrored parts show up as separate BOM row with their own quantity. I went into mirrored parts studio and made sure the properties are the same as the 'parent' mirrored part, but I still can't get the quantities to consolidate into one row in the BOM.
Is this possible - what am I missing?
Thanks.

I guess the mirrored parts are not the original parts and therefore I would not expect them to be counted as such. AFAIU the Assembly Mirror feature distinguishes between repositioned parts, which it counts together with the originals in one row, and mirrored parts, which get an extra row in the BOM.
Are you using the Transform mirror strategy so that the original part is merely copied and translated? If the Derive strategy is used, then a new part is created (using reflected geometry), which differs from the original. Here's a demonstration comparing the two strategies:
