about mate orientation

does it make a difference which way the mate is?  Z is the blue one and i will use it here. part 1 the blue line is pointed to the right and part 2 the blue line is pointed to the left when i mate them together. part 1 is a 4x4 flat steel and part 2 is 6x6 flat steel and i 'm mating them in the center

    can not understand your question clearly, could you explain it in details?

    so i would align them so that all 3 axis are the same to make it easier to set limits and offset. do all 3 axis need to be aligned or one?
