How do I do mate connection for 90deg gear in assembler

How do I do the mate connector for this? I have 2x 45degree angled gears and I want them to rotate eachother. 
Anyone know how to make this gear relationship? When I try the mate connectors it doesn't line up perfectly.

    Use 2 revolute mates to get the rotation in the directions as shown. Then link them with the gear mate at the desired ratio. Gear mate is really just a way to link the existing revolute mates via a ratio and rotation direction.

    When I do that the gears move to be end to end as if it is one large gear instead of 2, one on top of the other.

    I would like to have the gears be at right angles to each other. The gears are twisted at 45 degrees so I think it should work. 
    I'm comp sci not engineering so I'm not sure how it all works at the moment.

    OK.

    First stab at it here.

    As for the knowing how to do it that's the great thing about parametric cad, you can use the roll back bar in the part studio to step through what was done. :)

    We need to treat each part individually and then make them move together.

    Steps.

    (1) To make the handle or shaft spin we use revolute mates.  They need something to mate to so I've made a rudimentary base but anything will do.

    (2) Once we have the base I've put mate connectors in appropriate places (all still in the part studio.)

    (3) Then we go to the assembly and make the revolutes.

    (4) Once they work OK we add a gear relation between them.

    If we look at the assembly in cross-section we can see they don't quite mesh.  This can be fixed with by rotating one of the mates to suit back in the part studio:-


    I've left that step, and mating the secondary :p shaft for you
