Drawing a part around an assembly

I have several part studios where I have built various parts. I have one assembly where I have assembled the parts. Now I want to draw a new fairing part around the assembly. How do I make the assembly a simple component in a new sketch, or failing that, how can I at least draw some splines around an assembly?
