Beginner help needed

I have made a simple part studio with 6 parts.  When I bring it into assembly, I am trying to be able to show motion.  Can I share the model here so you can see what I'm talking about?  I have grouped two groups of parts and then tried to use the revolute constraint.  I'm not sure if I need to also use planar or fastened constraints.  When I try to do that, it re-positions the two groups of parts relative to each other (I don't want that).  I've spent literally hours trying a bunch of stuff and have viewed the tutorials on assemblies.  How can I get over the hump?

    @Jenny try right clicking one of the parts and selecting Fix. This will stop at least one of the parts from moving when you drag.

    Also you will need to accept the mate, it will move in a strange way while the command is open.
    Once you accept the command everything snaps back to where it belongs. (takes some getting used to)
