Release day is here and we have another very exciting update to tell you about today. Starting today, all users will get to try out the new public beta of Drawings. In addition to drawings we have also added a number of the top requested improvements and a few organizational changes as well.
Highlights include:
Remember: The updates listed here are now live for all users when creating new documents and over the next few days these features will also be available in documents created before the date of this update.
Highlights include:
- NEW Drawings - You can now create 2D drawings of your Parts and Assemblies in Onshape! Here are a few tips:
- RMB on a part in a Part Studio -> Create Drawing (Auto 3 view with ISO of the part)
- RMB on an Assembly tab -> Create Drawing (Auto 3 view with ISO of the assembly)
- Click the + button in the lower left -> Create drawing to create your own layout.
- We have included a number of templates for use by searching for "Templates" in the Documents page
- You can customize your own templates by modifying the DWT files provided in a DWG editing tool.
- Drawings has a help section to get you started.
*** Currently everything is set by the template and we will be adding customizations like Dimensions standard, 1st/3rd angle projection to be set within Onshape soon. - NEW Extrude with draft - Now you can add draft from within Extrude.
https://youtu.be/4v8DXdcAQJQ - NEW Fillet manipulator - Fillet size adjustments can be made from the graphics area.
https://youtu.be/JFoluwCBmJk - NEW Negative dimensions - Flipping dimensions is now easy to do with negative dimension support.
https://youtu.be/s_nb0I074pQ - NEW Diametric dimension support for revolved sketches - When dimensioning to a centerline, you can now dimension the revolved diameter length.
https://youtu.be/cWM3z3meH6g - NEW Loft improvements - Non-planar profile support, and end condition support to minimize the need for guide curves.
https://youtu.be/ayB44NkhA8c - Added some additional materials:
Material KG/m^3 Category PLA 1250 Plastic Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) 710 Wood, Composite High Density Fiberboard (HDF) 880 Wood, Composite Stainless 2205 7820 Metal Steel 4340 7850 Metal Steel 1010 7870 Metal Steel 4130 7850 Metal Steel 8620 7850 Metal
- Organizations are now called Teams. Teams can be managed in the "Manage account" menu under Teams. Team options:
- Add members
- Share with a Team
*** Teams cannot own documents like Organizations did. Document owner can only be an individual or a Company. - Companies are now part of paid plans. Users are added through your paid plan. Companies can be managed in the "Manage account" menu under Companies. Company options:
- Add members (paid by Company)
- Share with a Company
- Documents can be owned by a Company (not seen by all members)
*** All payment information is done under Plans and not part of the Company interface. - FREE plan updates are live and are outlined here. Here are a few things to know about the new FREE plan:
- Unlimited PUBLIC documents (up to 5GB)
- 10 private documents (owned documents are limited to a total of 100MB)
Tips:
- Owned documents in your TRASH count toward the 100MB limit. (You can empty TRASH to free up that space)
- Active Documents shared with you count toward your 10 private document limit. (You can select "Remove me from share" in the gear icon to free those spots)
- If you had more than 10 private documents before the FREE plan change, you will still have access to all of them but will not be able to create any new private documents until you are back under the limit.
- Documents previously shared with you will appear inactive whether you are under or over your private 10 document limit. If you are under this limit, you can use the gear icon "Make document active" to access the document and add it to your private documents.
Remember: The updates listed here are now live for all users when creating new documents and over the next few days these features will also be available in documents created before the date of this update.

Wow. Huge release Onshape.

Conspiracy theory: Onshape has been developed secretly for past decade and they have worked a year or two for each update they are dropping for us every few weeks!
Great update, you guys are awesome!//rami5 -
Awesome, great release.2

Thanks for the much more comprehensive list of steel grades.
Also very heartened to see negative dimensions - I still remember the day SW finally implemented them, and to this day rejoice in not having to expend mental effort on constructing sketches "defensively", to avoid painting them into metaphorical corners... And of course it will become considerably more advantageous when dimensions "take to the air" (linked / equation driven / tabulated / configurable)
It's great to see some genuine horsepower starting to be injected into lofts, and I was really hanging out for end controls.
And although it's not used every day, I think non-planar end caps is a major gain, because its lack is so laborious to work around2 -
Great releases guys. Finally...Drawings!!!!
Looks good so far, hellishly slow (5 seconds to generate a dimension?), but I suppose when Australia has such 3rd world internet speeds, that's what we get.

I want 4140 and 1045, went to add this to the discussion but it's now closed down. I had been meaning to put my request for steels but have got around to it.andrew_troup said:Thanks for the much more comprehensive list of steel grades.

We are working on Drawings performance every release and are making some great strides to improve the speed. Over the next release or two you will see some very noticeable improvements to responsiveness. This is the same process we went through and continue to go through with our sketcher.Lou Gallo

Maybe a bit early @lougallo , but other tools for Drawings coming soon too? Callout or Detail views would be a good one.
Looks good so far though.

I hope this means the end of asking for materials and the beginning of creating them yourself.brucebartlett said:..

Thanks a lot guys, now I'll probably be slacking off at work today playing with the new drawing functionality and not getting my real work done. Keep up the great work.

Thanks guys, now the drawing tabs are in place, we can look to get truly productive on Onshape and design for manufacture.
