Re: In context edits to change with configuration variables?
Your example makes sense, but I think that you will need to drive the configurations from the part studio, because of the way Onshape works. I think that the problem with driving this type of feature from the assembly, is that you will have a real tough time making sure that the bottom for Cabinet A above only has 6 legs… -
Re: Learning CAD for 3D Printing
Reading this thread, one would think there is a preferred knowledge for parametric modeling. Parametric modeling is still in it's infancy so please understand that you'll get different answers from different experts. So why bother with something not defined and difficult? Because there is no better way to control 3D… -
Re: Is There a Way To 'Roll Back' an Assembly?
I am not exactly sure what you're trying to do - BUT . . . . If you have a complex assembly and you're trying to troubleshoot an overly complex mating strategy - here are some suggestions. 1) Assembly figs would likely not be of much help. Figs have been in other products for a while and no one uses them to troubleshoot… -
Re: mate connector
A few things I like about the OnS mate connector concept 1) The fact that connectors are a durable addition to the part, reflecting design intent. I mean that they remain intact even when assembly mating scheme needs wholesale revision. The user is gently encouraged to think ahead, about the design intent of the part… -
Re: I am stuck in "Exersize: Creating multiple parts in a part studio"
Thank you for your reply and helpoffer. I would post a link to that document but I somehow deleted the document, so problem solved itself apparantly. I will try the same exersize again tommorow and if I fail multiple times again, then I will post in this topic. In the meantime however I did design a nice dummy… -
Re: What about implementing universal numeric solver/optimizer?
I like numerical optimization (used it all the time in my days as a graphics researcher), but it's not like sorting or even linear equation solving -- there's no one algorithm for nonlinear optimization that gives the "right" result. Algorithms vary widely in terms of their performance on different kinds of problems,… -
Re: How to make Replicate and Assembly Patterns awesome
@malay_kumar 2. Could you recognize the underlying hole? I don't see any other convenient way than mating to edge between hole and part surface (otherwise it would need offset to keep things in place) 3. I was thinking this one while writing IR for being able to create user library of hole groups and sketch shape groups in… -
Re: Importing Data Points from a CSV File
Neil, I've looked at my text file and the format appears to be correct. I'm thinking maybe it has to do with hidden characters associated with carriage return / line feeds or something like that. My original text files that work were created on a PC running windows. My new text file was imported from a Mac. On my Mac I… -
Re: Service Provider Concerns?
There are (roughly) three phases to 'loading' 1. The time taken to present the page when you first go to sign in. 2. The time taken to present the 'modeling' page containing your part studios & assemblies after you click to open a new document (or create a new one) 3. The time taken to present a final workable model you… -
Re: Dealing with employers
True, Onshape does have a slight stigma to the unknowing. They assume because it's not AutoDesk, SolidWorks, or Unigraphics it must be a toy. I have been trying to convince the people at my work that it is better than what they "think" a web browser app can be for the last couple years. They are impressed at the speed I…
