Re: To "Coincident Constrain", or "Concentric Constrain", that is the question. (Misquoting Shakespeare)
I was not aware the bounding edges of the face selected to create a sketch plane were that accessible for constraining. I have not had an issue using the coincident constraint to constrain to a circle/arc center to the center of a circular edge on the sketch plane because I always use "Use". It is my practice to "Use" the… -
Re: Re-using parts vs creating new in multipart studios (concerning production and erp data)
@3dcad - What, specifically, makes using an existing part harder than making a new part? Is it hard to know if it exists? Is it hard to find the existing part when you know it exists? Is it too difficult or tedious to add the part when you know it exists? I agree that re-using parts is definitely better than re-creating… -
Re: Using variables in part design or FS
@michael3424 Ah yeah, if you're using a hobbyist/maker-grade laser like I am, then it doesn't do any kerf compensation in the laser control, so cutting a 1" square actually results in something like an 0.99" square. This is what the kerf compensation feature is intended to correct, and then the LJ feature is just to define… -
Help with enclose function?
Hello All, I am trying to make a basic FeatureScript to improve my learning that generates RPG Dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20). I can successfully create planes for the sides of the D4 and wish to use an enclose operation to create the solid. What is the proper way to use enclose()? There is no documentation for opEnclose… -
Am I just an retard? or is feature script impossible..
So what I have been attempting to do, for the 10th time now... Is create a slot (as shown in the top left corner of the sketch) on each selected point. This is still my first "from scratch" feature script. but I can never get past the first step... creating a sketch on a plane... I've learned a dozen other languages… -
Cloud-based software
I use a Chromebook, and in most respects I'm an enthusiast, bordering on a rabid convert. But one thing I dislike is the scenario, quite recurrent, where something about the operation changes without my knowledge, let alone consent. Sometimes it's just something minor. Recently an advisory strip has started dropping down… -
Re: Is there a way to set the offset of a mate connector to a surface?
I model lots of t-slot assemblies that incorporate additional parts as shown in your example. Mating is a challenge, but I have found that using one or more of the following tactics can yield assemblies that avoid planar mates entirely, contain a minimum number of fastened mates, and respond reasonably well to parametric… -
Re: What is the proper practice to make these two bearings rotate together?
@cmot17 , You're asking great questions. There is often a compromise between modeling speed (FASTEN the bearings together with an offset) and expressing design intent. There are no universally right answers, just ever-present compromise. I am generally biased toward design intent. Be thoughtful and do what works best in… -
Re: Laser, water jet, maybe milling....
I could enter a lot of wants here but here are a few for laser/waterjet/plasma/punch/router 2D cutting CAM: 1) Nesting of parts: Optimize for best sheet yield set by parameters of the type of cutting you are doing. Store remnants of nests and drop created from nest for re use of sheets later on. 2) Direct link to CAD… -
Re: What am I not understanding (equal constraint 2 lines cannot be solved)
As has been mentioned, I believe it has to do with the number of constraints that are added to your sketch. I found that I didn’t have to add any extra constraints to the sketch myself. All I had to do was sketch the segments, add a couple dimensions, and then I could fully define the sketch, including the line segments…
