Is there a way to create a customize mate?
In OnShape, mates are defined so that they resemble mechanical connections. However, they are limited to specific kinematic combinations (for each mate, certain DOFs are restricted). I'm trying to use OnShape to model a specific kinematic behaviour that does not correspond to any of the existing mates. (eg. Rx, Ry, Rz, Z… -

Biconic surfaces
I need to create a "biconic" surface, i.e. an ellipse in each principal plane, but different ellipses for x and y. I think it's a bad idea (futile?) to try to do it with ellipses and lofts or rotations. Need to just make a featurescript that defines z(x,y) algebraically, and smoothly interpolates through a (user-specified)… -

Numeric Fields with Multiple Length Divisions and Additions
Hello all, I've run into a bit of a roadblock using numeric fields with multiple configuration variables. I am attempting to define a configuration variable's upper limit as a function of other configuration variables. Specifically, the (approximately) correct equation is: (#X / 2) - (#Y / 2) - 1in Where #X and #Y are both… -
Re: Hollow Settings (hollowing and extrusion)
@tom_mort The arrow literally flips the direction of the shell - default is to create a hollow part, so if your sketch is x wide, y high, the outside dimensions will stay x by y. Flip the arrow to remove the extrude volume and add material to the outside. The interior is now x by y and the outside is x+5 by y+5. If you… -

How do you manage purchased assembled parts (such as bearings) as a single part for BOM purposes?
I import bearing 3D CAD models from various vendors on Traceparts, etc. Bearing Vendors generally supply 3D Cad Models as assemblies (perfectly logical). This is an issue with the CAD packages I use, (SW & Onshape). I want a simple ball bearing assembly to appear on a Parts List BOM a single purchased part, rather than a…
