Re: Associate a file to an ITEM?
I created a ticket for @Otto_DeRuntz but wanted to post here what I told Otto in the ticket:
We don't have a way yet to directly attach/associate data in tabs you have imported to parts/assemblies/drawings/non geometric items. I'm placing you on the improvement for that. As others have mentioned, you might create a custom property and put the URL for the data in the tab those parts/assemblies/drawings/non geometric items can refer to.
This is a general need/ability in most PDM systems - to create relationships between data that are not necessarily the same as the CAD relationships that the system maintains automatically for you.
Re: Improvements to Onshape - January 31st, 2025
Love the new additions but I'm struggling on the Sheet Metal Forming tools related to Louvers. It seems that they have a default orientation and rotating or changing them requires a mate connector as the reference instead of sketch vertices. Is there something I am missing? Having to set a mate connector to rotate it seems a bit silly when there could be something directly in the feature to select a sketch line for orientation.

Which is why I split the helix slightly before it made it to the bottom.

🤣 @sebastian_glanzner you are in the lead because of the comedy.
Re: Why cant I start a new document
(A) For design and engineering companies, $1500 a seat is very reasonable, especially compared with the cost of employing the person who sits in the seat.
(B) For makers and occasional users it's obviously a lot of money.
OnShape is targeting itself at (A), which is reasonable because that's were there is a good market for companies who will happily pay a tiny fraction of the labor cost to ensure that labor is as productive as it can be.
If OnShape also wanted to go after the (B) market, how would OnShape be able to really tell if a user is in the (A) or (B) category? And how would they offer an affordable product to (B) market without cannibalizing or alienating their (A) market?
Re: FeatureScript fault
I was merely pointing out that you are missing a parenthesis after defineFeature.
