How to move an imported mesh

                    After I've got me a 3D scanner , I want to import some scanned forms to work from tha base. It seems the imported mesh will show up at an arbitrarily chosen position:

I cannot find any way to move and reposition this mesh. I'd like to move it to the center point and adjust a surface parallel to the top layer....
Probably I'm too blind to find a way of moving a mesh to a reasonable position. Thanks for any help!
