Importing part studios and assemblies from other documents

I am trying to insert a part or assembly from an outside document into an assembly. I am able to find the document(s), but the window tells me that there are no part studios and it asks me to create a new version for the assemblies. Whenever I am able to "insert" an assembly, nothing is actually inserted.

Can anyone explain this?

    Yes. You can only insert a version of a part/assembly from one document into another. When the other document is changed, it needs to be up-versioned first before it will update in the document it is inserted into.
