Modeling a Hose Reel

I'm interested in how I can model a hose reel.
If I use a simple helix, I can't get the hose to layer itself onto the reel;) There are like 5-6 layers in a hose reel like this:

john_mcclary Member, Developers Posts: 3,939 PRO@3dcad is right, if this is just for looks, only do the outer most ring. Helix is the slowest feature in cad.
otherwise here is one way to do it:

I made 3 layers and swept along the helix's
clockwise
counter clockwise
clockwise
then connected the ends with a 90 deg piece, then boolean union them all together.

If you wan't to render product image just create top layer with some dummy pieces on sides.
ps. Without testing I think it would be multiple helix sweeps on top of each other and boolean together
