Assembly doesn't find any part

edited July 2015 in Using Onshape
Hi,
I'm new in Onshape (free plan), and I'm trying to make an assembly.
I made (importing some step file) 4 parts and, now, I want assemble them together.
When I create my part n.5 (named assy, with a big fantasy effort) I create the tab Assembly 1 and I tried to open tha icon "Insert parts and assemblies", the part list is empty.
Witch kind of mistake I'm doing? Do I missing something important?
Many thanks

How, I'm missing important news: all my parts are non manifold parts (i.e. open solids)

Uploaded parts are in surface..There may not any solid parts, so you not able to find any parts in part list.
create some new parts in the part studio and try to insert in assembly...

    I understand.
It is a pure solid modeler, and it doesn't manage Non Manifold Topology.
There is any 'make solid' command?
    Many thanks

You can use "Thicken" command to make solids from existing surface..

    Yes, I know.
But, at least for this job (the one I'm doing now), the question is that I need to work with Open Solids (I mean: Non Manifold object with NO thickness, like in NX or Think3)
    Again many thanks

besides my hopes, I still cannot make an easy assembly.
Now, I have two solid parts :
    1. uno (a plate) and
    2. due (a bolt).
When I open assy (it should become my assembly) I don't find any part in catalog.
All parts are shared with support.
Please, can you explain what I was doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Piero

Can you make that document global and share a link here?

Just to confirm, you have part studio tabs with parts and assembly tab all in same document?

Cross document references are not here yet so all your parts and assemblies need to be in same document. You can create more tabs in left bottom + -sign menu.

    :) SOLVED!!! :)
My error was to interpret Workspaces like simple parts; Workspaces, instead, are like entire projects, made of parts, sub-assembly and assembly.
Sorry for the mistake and Thanks to everybody.
    Ciao, Piero

Now you are finding the real beauty of Onshape =)

Wan't to remind you at this point that part studio can handle multiple parts (like assembly with fixed constraints). You only need to create assembly for motion.
