A way of making a surface out of a part?

Given a solid part, can I take the outer areas to make a surface?

    Offset surface at zero thickness?

    Delete Face / Leave Open will remove faces to make a surface. If you want an enclosed surface (not sure why?) you can close the open face using Fill
